Is it illegal to decode Dishnetwork satellite signals in Canada?
As a Canadian, would it be illegal for me to program a FTA receiver to decode American satellite signals such as DishNetwork? Please include reference websites if possible. As a Canadian, I know it would be illegal to decode Canadian satellite signals. I was "told" that "if you can't buy it, you can't steal it." Any truth to this?|||in canada the airwaves are concidered free, here you will get slapped with fines of up to 10000 and some prison time maybe. ask OJ Simpson, you got caught. if your dish is up but not pluged into your set well there maybe a loop hole if your being checked out, remember you dont have to let the cable guy in...no matter how pushy he is.|||you can't just set coordinates on your FTA receiver and get dish network. Dish is highly encrypted, and the codes changes regularly via downloads to registered receivers. If you can obtain a signal, then it cannot be distributed as the copyrights on the programs are for USA audience only. Canadian enforcements of international copyrights would probably just be limited to confiscation of the receiving equipment.|||grey area ..such there is no oficial american TV in Canada ( as forbiden.illigal ) so "they "likely do not care what do you do , on ur own with decoding of EMU..of am /TV...|||I dont see why you wouldn't be allowed to do it.
